Dinner Table Rules for Automatic Weight Loss
Rules 1 through 4
in the previous paper dealt with food cravings and when to eat. The next four will deal with the act of eating after you sit down to the table.
Write them in yourjournal,
and read them each morning.
Rule #5: I prepare a meal and eat while sitting at the table.
You do not eat in the car. You do not eat at your desk. You do not eat in the living room or den. You do not eat in bed. You do not eat in the yard unless it is at a picnic table. You do not nibble while preparing food or clearing the table. You do not eat while standing anywhere. You want your pigmy-self to not associate eating with any situation or place except sitting at the table.
When you have finished your meal, immediately clear the table. If there is enough leftovers for another meal, put them in the freezer, not in the refrigerator where they will tempt you. If there is not enough for another meal, put them in the garbage disposal!
Brush your teeth (and your tongue) after each meal. Not only is it good for your teeth, but you will clear flavors from your mouth and not be tempted to eat more. Who wants to mess up those clean, white teeth! One last word about setting the table: You will do better if you don't put the food on the table to be served "family style". Put the food you are going to eat on a plate and leave the rest in the kitchen. If you are eating alone, only prepare what you will eat, put extra food away before you sit down.
Review of Mealtime Ritual: Write it in your journal and read it before each meal until it is cemented in your brain. Prepare a meal. Set the table with plate, water, and utensils. Take small bites. Put your fork down. Rest your hands in your lap. Chew slowly. Take 20 minutes to eat. Leave food on your plate. Clear the table. Brush your teeth. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. In about 21 days you will be doing this so automatically that you won't even think about rules. You will just do it.
After learning the rules, we are ready for step #5:compulsive eating triggers
